William R. Broz, P.E.

William R. Broz, P.E., LEED AP is a Senior Managing Engineer at the Los Angeles office Exponent, an international scientific and engineering consulting firm. A licensed mechanical engineer in six states, he performs both failure analysis and proactive work in the firm’s Mechanical Engineering practice. Mr. Broz is experienced in assisting both plaintiff and defense counsel on a broad range of cases including construction claims, engineering standard-of-care, construction defect, casualty, personal injury and others.

Over the last 35+ years, Mr. Broz has acquired a broad range of design and operational experience including power plant operations, mechanical engineering design, project management, cost estimating, economic analysis and construction administration. His engineering expertise includes building mechanical and plumbing system design; power and process piping design and stress analysis; and cold regions engineering. A LEED 2.0 Accredited Professional, Mr. Broz has considerable experience designing systems for energy efficiency, including LEED projects up to the Gold award level.

Mr. Broz was previously Associate Vice President in the Construction Claims Consulting practice at ARCADIS, a global engineering and consulting firm. Prior to that he served as Vice President and General Manager of CTG Forensics, an Irvine, CA based forensic engineering firm. A native of Seattle, his earlier career focused on design engineering and project management work there. Mr. Broz also served as a nuclear trained submarine officer in the U. S. Navy, and as an Engineering Duty Officer in the
U. S. Naval Reserve, retiring in 1999 at the rank of Commander.

An Associate Member of the American Bar Association, Mr. Broz has been active in the ABA’s Forum on Construction Law. He recently co-authored the chapter on sustainable building standards in the Forum’s new book, Green Building and the Construction Lawyer: Aa Practical Guide to Transactional and Litigation Issues. Mr. Broz’s other professional affiliations include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, where he served on the Power Piping Section Committee; the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers; the National Society of Professional Engineers; the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (as correspondent); and the Forensic Expert Witness Association.

Mr. Broz earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Washington, and a Master of Business Administration (Economics) from Seattle University.
