Gary Benton

Gary Benton is an internationally recognized US, UK and international Arbitrator and Mediator with over 30 years major law firm and in-house expertise in international business, venture capital investment, technology development and emerging growth matters. He serves on the Commercial and International panels of AAA-ICDR and on panels of other leading international arbitral institutions in the US, Europe and Asia. He has handled hundreds of cases around the world in the course of his career.
In addition to his neutral practice, Gary is the founder and currently serves as the Chairman of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (SVAMC) and he is a founder of the California International Arbitration Council (CIAC). He was previously a partner with the leading international law firms Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and Coudert Brothers LLP in San Francisco and Palo Alto.
Gary is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators (FCCA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and a member of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA) Advisory Board, the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and other US and international arbitral associations. He is an Ambassador for the Alliance for Equality in Dispute Resolution.
Gary is peer-appointed to the SVAMC List of the World’s Leading Technology Neutrals. In 2016, he was named by the National Law Journal as one of the 25 ADR Trendsetters and Visionaries in the US. In 2017, he was named to IAM 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists.
He is dual qualified as a US lawyer and an English solicitor and serves in administered and ad hoc proceedings worldwide. He is on the Adjunct Faculty of the Santa Clara University Law School of Law and speaks and writes regularly on topics relating to technology and international dispute resolution.
