Charles Platto, formerly a litigation partner at Cahill Gordon & Reindel and head of his own national boutique insurance law firm, is an independent arbitrator and mediator specializing in domestic and international commercial and insurance matters. For the past 12 years he has been adjunct professor of Insurance Law and Litigation at Fordham Law School, and previously was at NYU and Vermont Law Schools. He is a vice chair of the ABA TIPS Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, a member of the editorial board of the Insurance Litigation Reporter(ThomsonReuters) and author and editor of several books, chapters and articles on current insurance topics. He is a panel member for commercial and insurance matters for AAA, ICDR, CPR, ICC, FedArb.com, ARIAS, Remedi and Mediators+More and the New York and New Jersey court mediation programs. He has been named a New York Super Lawyer for Insurance Coverage since 2010.
In 2013, Mr. Platto assisted the American Arbitration Association in establishing the Super Storm Sandy Mediation Program which required every insurer to offer mediation to every insured (business and personal) in New York and New Jersey. He trained all the mediators in the program on insurance issues, and conducted over 50 mediations himself in New York, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester Counties and New Jersey.
